Your spouse, kids, and pets are a huge part of your family, and you don’t want to see them attacked by sand fleas. There are certainly no precious memories in that.
Protect your kid’s and pet’s skin from sand fleas without the use of strong irritative toxic repellents. Here’s how to repel sand fleas naturally.
Try Essential Oils
Natural sand fleas treatment is quite manageable with essential oils. Most of the essential oils that smell pleasantly well to us, usually make pest like sand fleas nauseated and repel them. Essential oils like citronella, lemon, peppermint, tea tree, melrose, pine, lavender, and orange have all been tested and used to keep sand fleas away.
How to use.
Mix one drop of Castile liquid soap, water, and 5-7 drops of citronella (optional) essential oil. Pour the mixture into a new spray bottle, shake well and spritz the skin to stay sand-flea free! Using this ingredient is one way to dilute the essential oil.
Apply Boric Acid
Pick up boric acid from your local convenience store, and sprinkle it around the area to get rid of sand-fleas. You can try distributing it around the home, on the lawn, etc. Boric acid, also called hydrogen borate is a white-like powder that works by giving the sand fleas stomach poison. You should be cautious when using this product. If not carefully applied, direct contact can make you sick.
Nematodes are a great way to combat sand fleas, it does not affect humans, kids, pets or even plants. It fights sand fleas by feeding on its tissue and emitting deadly bacteria. Follow the packaging label for dosage and proper use. You would want to use nematodes as a spray in a surrounding area that is filled with sand fleas.
You probably saw this one coming – Apple cider vinegar! A pretty strong, effective, potent and acidic household ingredient. Mix apple cider vinegar with warm water and spritz the skin or area to repel fleas. It is safe to use on kids and pets. Although the scent is not too wearable, you can add lemon juice to give it a more citrus flare.
Eating garlic causes your body to release a scent that repels sand fleas. This method is not desirable, I mean, why would anyone want to smell like garlic, but it is extremely effective by itself and can be mixed with other methods like essential oils.
Apply Diatomaceous Earth
Diatomaceous earth is a natural solution for fighting of sand fleas. It is a powder composed of fossilized components and diatoms. It works by dehydrating the sand fleas, sucking every drop of their bodily fluid, and consequently killing them. This is also known as death by dehydration. You can use it the same way as you use borax.
Pulverized, dry and powdered eucalyptus around an isolated perimeter helps to repel sand fleas.
